Position paper on the reform of European agricultural policy

 

 

In view of the European Commission´s plans to reform the European agricultural policy, the central Committee of the ZdK adopted on 22 June 2012 the Position Paper “Cornerstones for a sustainable European agriculture“. It contains several policy recommendations that are based on the results of a working group consisting of various social actors from the areas of agriculture, sustainability and development policy.

 

 

 

 

POLICY PROPOSAL

 

Reform direct payments to farmers

 

Targeted Institutions:
European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the EU


The EU must ensure that the system of direct payments is simplified from the perspective of farmers as well as the public administration and made more transparent from the standpoint of consumers. Moreover, direct payments need to be linked more to socio-economic and ecological criteria in order to make the distribution of funding more balanced and to better contribute to a more  sustainable agriculture.
